As Hurricane Helene continues to trudge through North Carolina Friday morning, people in the impacted areas are asked to stay home.
Here’s what we know as of 9 a.m.:
- About one-third of Gaston County is without power.
- There are downed trees and power lines across the county.
- Emergency management is watching water levels of Mountain Island Lake, the South Fork and Catawba rivers.
- Some trees have fallen on houses, but there have not been reports of injuries as a result.
- An emergency shelter has been opened at the Citizens Resource Center at 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
- Road closures can be found at drivenc.gov.
- The National Weather Service has extended a flash flood warning until 2 p.m.
