Deputies: No injuries in Gaines Township shooting

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say deputies are investigating a shooting in Gaines Township early Friday morning.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said around 3:30 a.m. Friday it received reports of shots fired near the intersection of 60th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue.

There were no reports of injuries, but the sheriff’s office said deputies found several shell casings outside a house on Campus Park Drive SE.

It’s unknown what led to the shooting.

Due to the proximity to East Kentwood High School, the sheriff’s office said it’s working with the school district to ensure an increased presence around campus Friday morning to provide “reassurance and safety for students and staff.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 616.632.6125 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
