Tropical storm Helene devastates the Upstate

Power lines and trees are down, and flash flooding is rampant throughout the Upstate after tropical storm Helene hit the state.

Reports of flood waters are present across the Greenville area, including main roads and highways around the downtown area.

Trees are also downed, further blocking roadways and causing property damage to houses, fences and other property.

Damage assessment is still underway across the area.

Both Laurens Electric and Duke Energy have reported widespread power outages, with Laurens Electric posting on social media that roughly 98 percent of their entire network was down Friday morning.

Duke Energy is in roughly the same ballpark, with well over one million customers affected across both of the Carolinas.

No timeframe estimations for power restoration have yet been announced.
