Storms Cause Flash Floods, Road Closures and Power Outages in Cherokee

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Cherokee County and other parts of north Georgia.

A flash flood warning for north and west Cherokee County is in effect until 11:30 a.m. Friday. This area also includes Bartow, parts of Cobb, Paulding and Gordon counties, and extends south to parts of Coweta.

Parts of southeast Cherokee are under a flash flood warning until 1:15 p.m. Friday. This area also includes north Fulton, and parts of Forsyth and Gwinnett counties.

Cherokee remains under a tropical storm warning and is under a flood watch until 2 p.m.

In downtown Canton, a tree fell on a power line on East Main Street near Golf Course Road, the city reports. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Union Hill Road is closed near the Marvin Land Road intersection due to flooding, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office reported.

Gilmer Ferry Road in Ball Ground is closed due to a tree and power lines down near Cherokee Village Drive.

The traffic light at Towne Lake Parkway and Woodstock Parkway is out. Drivers are to treat the intersection as a four-way stop and yield to oncoming cars.
