Falcons have a plan for Alvin Kamara on Sunday vs. Saints

FLOWERY BRANCH — Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been a nice fit in the Saints’ new offensive scheme.

Klint Kubiak, son of Gary Kubiak, is a longtime student of the Denver Broncos version of the West Coast/outside-zone scheme that Kyle Shanahan, son of Mike, is running now with the 49ers. Kubiak was last with the 49ers and has installed the system that helped the Falcons reach Super Bowl 51 and score the seventh-most points in league history.

Kubiak has feature running back Alvin Kamara, who will be the X-factor in the game Sunday when the Falcons and Saints meet at 1 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“You’ve got to stop him,” Falcons coach Raheem Morris said.

Kamara, the former Norcross High star, who went on to play at Alabama and Tennessee, is in his eighth season in the NFL. He’s been named to five Pro Bowls, because he’s also a fine pass-catcher.

“It’s hard to even call him a (running back) – just his ability to get open, his subtle change of direction, his ability to move, his extreme contact balance, which is very well displayed on Instagram,” Morris said. “He’s outstanding. He’s an outstanding player.”
