Jury begins deliberation in Evansville murder trial

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The jury in the murder trial of Zachary Diaz began deliberating on Friday morning after the state rested its case yesterday.

Diaz is charged with murder after allegedly shooting Derrick Dye Jr. outside of Ponytails Lounge. Officers say they were dispatched the 1200 block of east Columbia Street in February for reports of shots fired outside of the strip club. Officers found Dye Jr. with a single gunshot wound and had him transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Authorities say Diaz approached Dye outside and the two began to fight before Dye was shot. Diaz was taken into custody in the 2800 block of Ravenswood Drive.

We will update this story with updates as the trial continues.
