Severe Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of North Carolina & Virginia

Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania May See Severe Weather Also

09/27/24 12:47pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. Heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to lift northward and eastward as tropical low pressure hangs back over Kentucky.

To the east of our center of circulation, embedded severe weather with strong winds continue to plague a very wide area of real estate. We’re watching a very significant line of thunderstorms heading though parts of North Caorlina, Virginia, and heading rapidy towards Maryland.

We could also see this area of strong to severe thunderstorms reach back into West Virginia, as well as the southern Pennsylvania border later today. We’ve already seen reports of wind damage and radar-indicated rotation with some of these thunderstorms.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for parts of North Carolina and Virginia until 6pm ET. Look for locally damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of brief tornadoes.
