KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Speed humps and other traffic calming devices are being utilized by Kalamazoo city officials to make sure drivers adhere to posted speed limits. One of those devices includes a pedestrian box, which is a cone-protected section placed in the middle of the crosswalk where pedestrians are safe from vehicles. It also can be an additional indicator and reminder of a crosswalk, alerting drivers that they may need to slow down when pedestrians are present.
