AZZ Galvanizing experiences chemical leak

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Fire and Hazardous Materials Teams were called to a chemical leak in AZZ Galvanizing’s storage and processing building.

On September 26th, around 1:17 a.m., employees found a muriatic acid leak in the building located at 1925 Kishwaukee Street.

The Hazardous Materials Team investigated inside the building and decided that the leaking product was contained in the overflow containment system within the building.

The leak created a plume in the area, so a 10-block radius around the incident was monitored. There were no abnormal findings.

Rockford Fire stayed on the scene until a clean-up crew arrived.

Rockford Fire was supported during the incident by the MABAS 8 Decontamination Unit, the MABAS 8 Mobile Ventilation Unit and the Salvation Army.
