County of Sonoma Considers How to Spend $43-Million in Opioid Settlement Money

Sonoma County will be getting 43-million-dollars in opioid settlement funds. The next step is deciding how it will be spent. Sonoma County is one of thousands of plaintiffs named in a national lawsuit regarding the manufacturing, distribution and marketing of opioids. Settlements have been reached with pharmaceutical distributors, manufacturers and pharmacies, all named as defendants in the case. Payouts are expected to come by 2038. The Sonoma County Department of Health Services says it is in the in the early stages of working on a spending proposal for the settlement money.
