Denver police technician Mike Borquez: Support the Shield’s Officer of the Month

DENVER (KDVR) – Denver Police Department technician Mike Borquez has been wearing the badge for 26 years.

“I originally became a cadet to be on the fire department. But the more I worked around the police officers, and the more I saw the police work, I changed my mind and went to the police department just because it’s more exciting, you get to interact with people,” said Borquez.

Make a nomination for Officer of the Month

FOX31 met with Borquez and his partner, Officer Cervantes, while they were interacting with the public at Big O Tires on East Colfax, with a security car club giveaway. They were encouraging motorists and car owners to “join the club“ by giving away devices to lock stearing wheels.

Borquez is now a community resource officer for District 2 and he likes it. The toughest part of the job? “I think the toughest part of the job is the misconceptions out there from folks. So in my role now, the nice thing that I get to do is educate folks on what we can do, what we can’t do, but I get to explain the why,” he said.
