Spanky could have been crushed in Helene, but Jacksonville nonprofit saved him and 92 other pets

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – “Even if they’d survived, they would have been terrified,” said Mike Merrill with Florida Urgent Rescue or F.U.R., a Jacksonville nonprofit. Merrill and his crew drove to counties under a Hurricane Warning before Helene hit to take 93 dogs and cats out of mostly open-air shelters.
