Whimsical public piano vandalized in Redwood City

(KRON) — A whimsical baby grand piano was vandalized in Redwood City after it was placed in a public space for everyone to enjoy.

The Redwood City Improvement Association wrote, “the cherished community piano, unveiled just two weeks ago, has been vandalized. This beautiful artistic piano was intended to serve as a gathering place for creativity and connection, and it is now in need of urgent repairs.”

Recently, an unknown vandal ripped one of the piano’s keys off.

The instrument, located in a community space near City Hall and a library, was used for spontaneous performances for anyone who felt inspired to play. Bright and intricate paintings of elephants and whales adorn the instrument’s artistic exterior.

“We are calling on every member of the community to stand together in respecting the downtown area’s public spaces,” said Amy Buckmaster, Executive Director of RCIA. “This is the community’s piano, and each of us plays a vital role in protecting this work of art to ensure it remains a vibrant addition to the neighborhood.”
