Commissioners, city manager set for raise

NORTH PORT — The North Port City Commission and its city manager took steps toward pay increases on Tuesday.

Near midnight Tuesday, City Manager Jerome Fletcher had his annual review completed and he will be getting a raise. It will be a 15% increase.

His current salary is around $215,000 and his new one will be around $247,000.

The commission approved the raise, 4-1, with Commissioner Debbie McDowell dissenting, saying such an increase is not reasonable based on her evaluation.

The other commissioners said he has helped the city take large strides forward with long-standing issues, like Warm Mineral Springs.

That pay increases did not stop there.

Earlier this month, Commissioner Barbara Langdon made a motion, directing the city attorney to amend the declaration of salary payment.

At the Tuesday meeting, a first reading on the matter took place, and more steps to more money were taken.

Currently, the city’s commissioners make around $42,000 per year. Fletcher initially proposed raising the pay to $62,000 per year.
