Augusta Fire-EMS crews responding to emergency calls, GA Power units being deployed to Augusta-Richmond Co.

AUGUSTA-RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta Fire and EMS teams are currently out responding to emergency calls.

According to authorities, emergency crews are handling multiple fire incidents, assessing damage, ensuring safety, assisting with debris removal, clearing roadways, and making sure essential services continue.

Georgia Power states it has deployed 10,000 units to Congressional District 12 with 1,000
units being deployed to Augusta-Richmond County, and units are expected to arrive
tomorrow morning.

Residents are being encouraged by officials to shelter-in-place for the next 24-36 hours as crews work to remove downed trees, clear blocked roads, and restore power, and residents that need to travel should proceed with caution. With many traffic lights are out, drivers are to treat intersections as a four-way stop.

Augusta Solid Waste will be closed on Saturday, September 27, and due to challenges stemming from Hurricane Helene, Augusta Utilities Department is experiencing difficulties repairing water main breaks in the system, and residents are urged to conserve water as there may be delays in making repairs.
