Canton Cleaning Up After Helene

The city of Canton is now moving into the recovery and response period following the passage of Hurricane Helene through the area, the city announced.

Cherokee County and Canton both suspended Emergency Operations Centers for the hurricane as of noon Sept. 27.

City offices were closed Friday and are scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Sept. 30.

The city also said its water and wastewater systems are operating as normal.

Canton’s city parks are in a partial reopen phase.

Heritage Park, the trails connecting Heritage Park to Etowah River Park as well as the trail extension from Etowah River Park under Interstate 575 eastward remained closed Friday due to limb damage, standing water and sediment.

City staff will work in these parks over the coming days and portions are subject to close as part of that cleanup process.

Sanitation routes for Friday were not recovered by WastePro and will be recovered Sept. 28. Residents who traditionally have Friday service to have their cans at the curb by 6 a.m. Saturday.
