JPS receives $500,000 grant to boost security efforts

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The Jackson Public School District (JPS) secured a $515,776 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program.

According to JPS officials, the funding will be utilized to expand the district’s Campus Enforcement team, adding more sworn officers to ensure enhanced safety and security across JPS schools.

The grant will be implemented over the next five years. Officials said each officer hired through the program will be assigned to a specific quadrant within the school district.

“We appreciate the opportunity to have been awarded this grant. It affords us the opportunity to promote safety for all stakeholders throughout our school district,” said JPS Campus Enforcement Chief Charles McInnis.

JPS officials said the additional officers will allow for a more responsive and community-focused policing approach within the district.
