The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim in a fatal shooting in Sparks as John Heinz, 56, of Reno.
Heinz was renovating a vacant apartment in the 1800 block of E Street with another man on Sept. 18 when they were approached by Yun Kim, of Sparks, police said. Kim and the victim had a brief confrontation, and Kim left. Police said Kim later returned and shot Heinz multiple times.
The other worker was able to subdue Kim and call police. He was uninjured in the incident.
Kim was hospitalized following the incident. After his release, he was booked into the Washoe County jail on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
