Jericho, Desper Hollow roads closed due to high water: Sheriff’s Office

AUGUSTA COUNTY — The heavy rain that has fallen in recent days and continues in Augusta County has forced the closure of both Jericho Road and Desper Hollow Road, located off Jefferson Highway near Fishersville. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office made the decision because of high water levels on both roads.

“The Augusta County Fire Department has responded to four separate incidents involving vehicles stranded in the water,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “These conditions pose significant danger to drivers and emergency personnel.”

The Sheriff’s Office is urging all residents to avoid driving through floodwaters.

“Even shallow water can be deceptive, and road conditions can quickly worsen,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said it is aware that multiple roads across the county are flooding.

“Please find alternative routes and avoid these areas until further notice,” per a release. “Stay alert for updates regarding the reopening of these roads.”
