ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. – One person was killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision in Pelzer.
According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the wreck around 1:40 a.m. on Main Street.
According to the coroner’s office, Main Street was down to a one lane road due to Tropical Storm Helene, which caused two vehicles traveling in different directions to collide head-on.
Bobby Jean Foster, 83, of Belton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to Prisma Health to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The coroner’s office said Foster was driving a Nissan pickup truck east on Main Street when the driver of a Ford Explorer traveling west was attempting to go around a tree and downed power lines which were blocking half the road hit his truck head on.
Foster was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
The coroner’s office said the wreck has been attributed to Tropical Storm Helene as a weather-related death due to the damage in the area and road obstacles which led to the wreck. This is the third dead attributed to the storm in Anderson County.
