The New York Knicks had the NBA community buzzing on Friday night after acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a blockbuster trade that not many saw coming.
The Knicks sent forward Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round draft pick to the Timberwolves to acquire the 28-year-old Towns.
Fans were left scratching their heads after the curious move by both squads. While Randle has become expendable because of his injury history, DiVincenzo enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Knicks last season.
The Timberwolves, meanwhile, advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in two decades with Towns as an integral part of the roster.
A few hours after the blockbuster deal, Knicks forward Josh Hart took to X with a four-word message.
“Uhh…are we serious?” Hart asked.
Some were quick to deduce that he was confused by the trade, especially since the Knicks let go of DiVincenzo, his good friend since their days at Villanova. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson and latest addition Mikal Bridges also played with DiVincenzo in college.
