Part of Clive Greenbelt Trail to close through 2025. Find out where:

A detour that’s expected to last through 2025 will soon be in place on the Clive Greenbelt Trail because of construction on Interstate 80/35.

The city of Clive announced Thursday in a news release that detour signs were being placed on the trail, ahead of the closure of a section of trail that intersects with the Interstate 80/35 bridge over Walnut Creek. The closure begins Tuesday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation will be adding lanes to the interstate bridge as part of a larger project to replace the interchange at Hickman Road with a diverging diamond configuration . That’s a project with a $94 million budget expected to be finished in 2028, according to the Iowa DOT website .

For the bridge construction over Walnut Creek, barriers will be placed on the Clive Greenbelt Trail at the Campbell Recreation Area bridge and the trail crossing at Northwest 114th Street.

Detour routes on the trail will start at the Campbell Recreation Area, 12853 Woodlands Parkway in Clive, west of the interstate bridge, and east of the bridge at Northwest 100th Street in Clive. During the construction, the trail from the east will give pedestrians and bicyclists access to Clive City Hall, library and aquatic center.
