Mother, two children die in crash with semi in Central Michigan

ONEIDA TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A mother and her two children died in a crash with semi-truck in Central Michigan.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said the “devastating accident” happened on Thursday (9/26) around 8 p.m. in the area of Mt. Hope Highway and Cochran Road—in Oneida Township, about 13 miles west of Lansing.

In a statement on Facebook ; the sheriff’s office said her van was traveling westbound when she did not stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. A northbound semi-truck and trailer hit them.

The driver and her “two young children” died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

A third child and the semi-truck driver were both rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened in a residential, rural area surrounded by farm fields.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team is “actively investigating” the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman’s name, and the exact ages of the children, have not been released.
