Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Killed in Israeli Strike

In a targeted airstrike on Friday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders were killed in Beirut. The IDF confirmed the attack, stating that Nasrallah was commanding an imminent attack against Israel from Hezbollah’s headquarters.

Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death, which occurred during air strikes that destroyed several buildings in Beirut. Six people were killed and 91 injured in the attacks.

US Supports Israel’s Actions

President Biden praised Nasrallah’s death as "justice" for the victims of Hezbollah’s terrorism. He affirmed the US’s support for Israel’s defense against Hezbollah and other Iranian-supported groups.

Hezbollah’s Planned Attack

The IDF claimed that Hezbollah was planning a major incursion into northern Israel, with an attack planned that would have surpassed the damage caused by Hamas on October 7th.

Additional Casualties

The IDF said it targeted the buildings at a specific time to minimize civilian casualties. However, additional air strikes to destroy Hezbollah weapons may have resulted in further casualties.

Iran Revolutionary Guards General Killed

Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps was also killed in the strikes. He was reportedly involved in protest suppression in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini.

Israel’s army chief warned that the killing of Nasrallah is not the end of their actions. IDF has carried out additional strikes in Beirut and has landed forces in the West Bank.

Israeli Restrictions and Netanyahu’s Speech

Israel has imposed restrictions on gatherings in Tel Aviv and other areas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who returned early from the UN General Assembly, praised the killing of Nasrallah and vowed to continue strikes against enemies and return abducted Israelis.

Attacks in Gaza and Yemen

Israeli attacks in Gaza killed six Palestinians overnight. The IDF also intercepted a missile launched from Yemen towards Israel.
