One arrested after smash-and-grab high-speed chase: Novato police

NOVATO, Calif. (KRON) — The Novato Police Department (NPD) said officers responded to a burglary at a store on Diablo Avenue early Saturday and spotted two suspect vehicles speeding away. A pursuit began on southbound Highway 101 but was called off due to unsafe speeds, reported NPD.

Police said video evidence revealed one vehicle crashed into the storefront to carry out the burglary, causing significant damage. About five suspects were involved, and an alert was sent to surrounding agencies, said officials.

CHP (California Highway Patrol) Marin found one suspect vehicle heading eastbound on Highway 580 in San Rafael. Officers tracked it until it crashed in Richmond, where they arrested the driver, Jeremy Fong, 26, from Oakland. Fong tried to escape on foot but was quickly caught, said police.

Investigators said the vehicle was confirmed stolen, and a large amount of stolen property was found inside. Fong has been booked into Marin County Jail, facing charges including burglary, vandalism, reckless evading, resisting arrest, vehicle theft, and conspiracy.
