NYPD: Robbers disguised as repairmen steal safe with $30,000 in Melrose

Police need the public’s assistance finding two men who they say threatened a 48-year-old and stole a safe containing $30,000. Officials say on Friday, Sept. 20, two men disguised themselves as repairmen. They approached the apartment building on Courtlandt Avenue and E 150th St., allegedly telling resident they were dispatched to repair a leak. When a resident, a 48-year-old male, let them in the building, police say one of the suspects pulled a knife to the victims throat while the other bound his hands with duct tape. According to police, the robbers then took a crowbar and broke into the victim’s home. They say they stole a safe containing $30,000, as well as an iPad and a passport. Police say the victim suffered minor bruising and refused medical attention at the scene. Police ask anyone who may know the suspects’ whereabouts or have any information about the incident to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. ”
