More than 900,000 customers still without power in South Carolina days after Helene hit

Days after the effects of Hurricane Helene stormed through South Carolina, nearly a million customers are still without power.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, 904,051 customers in the Palmetto State were still reporting outages, according to poweroutage.us. That’s about a third of 2,818,951 customers in South Carolina that are tracked by the outlet.

Nearly 75,000 of the outages were reported in Richland (30,648) and Lexington (43,396) counties. Overall, there were 107,763 customers in the Midlands reporting they didn’t have power.

The majority of ongoing outages were in the Upstate region of South Carolina.

Dominion Energy said 132,572 of its 820,703 customers were still reporting outages after Helene lashed South Carolina with heavy rain and powerful winds Thursday and Friday. More than 45,000 Dominion customers in Richland (24,981) and Lexington (21,696) counties were still in the dark Sunday morning.

Dominion reported it had restored power to about 300,000 customers who suffered blackouts because of the storm.
