Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) had to postpone its planned facilities check until 11 a.m. Friday morning because of “downed trees and the general state of disarray,” according to Executive Director of Communications Stacy Jennings.
As of 5:11 p.m. Friday, SCCPSS sent a notice out that it still has “a large number of schools without power and connectivity, as well as concerns about trees down on roadways throughout the area or laying across power lines.”
The district stated it does not yet have a decision made about school operations for Monday, Sept 30, but families should expect an update no later than 6 p.m. Sunday.
SCCPSS also noted that it had previously reschedule two Friday night football games for Saturday. The Savannah High School game will be postponed even further due to “lingering power outages.” A new date for the game will also be provided by Sunday. The second game involving New Hampstead High School is still scheduled for 3pm Saturday in Perry, Georgia.
