Americares provides mutual aid to help the devastation of Hurricane Helene

STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Relief crews from Connecticut have been working their way down south to areas hit hardest by Hurricane Helene this weekend.

Stamford based non-profit Americares sent medicine and relief supplies with crews to Florida that arrived on Saturday and are scheduled to be in North Carolina Tuesday.

Americares provides medical supplies and emergency funding to its partners during disasters. Staff say their support to medical professionals is critical during this stressful time.

“Today alone we heard from 5 different doctors, PAs and nurses who lost their whole homes,” said Americares Emergency Response Senior Associate Kennedy Caskey. ” It’s not just that they’re busy, it’s that they’re busy and they have to cope with disasters themselves while also providing care for other people in their community that have been impacted.”

Caskey is part of the crew in Florida. They have been on the ground in the hardest-hit communities assessing the health needs.
