Texas DPS trooper airlifted to Lubbock after Ector County crash, dies due to injures

On Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association confirmed the death of a state trooper injured in a crash earlier this month in Ector County.

A Texas state trooper was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car on duty on Sept. 17 in Ector County, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal previously reported .

At the time, the trooper’s name was not released; however, the Texas DPS Officers Association has identified the trooper as Kevin Ramirez Vasquez.

DPSOA Regional Director released a statement Saturday afternoon, saying, “Vasquez acceded to his injuries with his loving family by his side.”

Vazquez was a 2023 DPS graduate stationed in Odessa and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. DPSOA asked the public to keep Vasquez’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this time.

“Trooper Ramirez Vasquez is a man of valor, honor, purpose, and a true servant leader, he will never be forgotten,” reads the statement. “Today, in his final lifesaving act, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez’s organs were donated to save others.”
