Man fatally struck by Brooklyn subway train, sparking morning rush hour delays

A man was fatally struck by a subway train in Brooklyn Monday morning, sparking severe rush hour delays.

The victim was on the Manhattan-bound C line tracks at the Rockaway Ave. station in Bedford-Stuyvesant when a train entered the station, police and transit sources told the Daily News. It wasn’t immediately clear how the victim came to be on the tracks.

Police said the train operator attempted to brake in order to avoid the man but could not come to a stop in time. The man died at the scene after being struck. Investigators were working to determine his identity.

The incident sparked severe delays into Manhattan along both the A and C lines. One rider told The News she’d waited for an A train for almost an hour before giving up.

All C trains ran on the express track between Broadway Junction in East New York and the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station in Downtown Brooklyn for two hours as an investigation into the fatal incident continued.

MTA officials said local service on the C line resumed at 9:20 a.m.
