A woman was seriously injured after her 74-year-old husband accidentally drove over her leg outside an Ontario County restaurant over the weekend, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred just before 7:50 p.m. on West Main Street in Manchester, deputies said. A Victor man was apparently attempting to pickup up friends and relatives outside the eatery and drove forward as his wife was getting into the backseat of the vehicle. In turn, he drove the back tire over his wife’s right leg, deputies said.
The man heard his wife, also 74 and a Victor resident, scream and he quickly moved the car off her leg, deputies said.
Several passersby helped the woman at the scene before emergency responders arrived, using a leather belt as a tourniquet.
The woman was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, deputies said. She was listed in satisfactory condition Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The driver was not impaired or intoxicated at the time, deputies said, noting that “the events, although unfortunate, appear to be an accidental error due to lack of attention and/or distraction.”
