APD homicide detectives arrest 2 suspects in Sept. 17 fatal shooting

Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the Sept. 17 death of Tiray Evans , the Amarillo police announced over the weekend.

The Amarillo Police Department (APD) said James Childs, 27, was taken into custody Sept. 18 and charged with murder. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

A second suspect, Markeen Tiiedrick Rayshon Walker, 31, was arrested Friday, Sept. 27 in the area of 38th and South Jackson Street. APD said Walker had an outstanding murder warrant and was taken into custody without incident. He was also booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

Amarillo officers had been called to the 500 block of Jason Avenue on a reported shooting at about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and found Tiray James Evans, 26, who had been shot. The suspects had left the scene in a vehicle. Evans died at the scene.

APD’s homicide unit would like to thank the Potter County SWAT team, U.S. Marshal’s office, Department of Public Safety CID Investigators, APD Pace, and the APD Crime Analysts for their assistance during the investigation, which remains ongoing.
