Byron woman faces DUI charges after flipping car on North River Road

OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — A Byron woman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after authorities said she flipped her car and became trapped inside the vehicle late Sunday night.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Shaunda Thompson, 35, was traveling north on River Road in a black Kia Sorento when she failed to negotiate a curve, crossing the center line and plowing into the ditch and heavy brush and trees, with the car coming to rest on its roof about 10 yards off the roadway.

Police said multiple airbags deployed in the crash and the car was considered totalled.

Thompson was evacuated from the scene to a hospital for treatment, and her current condition is unknown.

She was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and cited for Improper Traffic Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
