Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet names Chad Sonnier GOHSEP director

Chad Sonnier takes over Monday, Sept. 30, as the new director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to lead Lafayette Parish’s emergency preparedness efforts.

Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet officially named Sonnier the new director last week, according to a prepared statement.

Sonnier brings more than 30 years of experience in emergency management, disaster response and public safety leadership. He will oversee coordination among federal, state and local governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector during times of crisis.

“His efforts will focus on enhancing collaboration before, during and after critical emergency events to ensure the safety and resilience of the community,” the statement reads.

Sonnier’s career includes 23 years as fire chief for the City of Scott, where he led emergency response operations and played a key role in disaster mitigation and recovery efforts.

Boulet said she is confident in Sonnier, his leadership and his experience.
