‘Thrash you with a mop handle’: Wiener’s Circle has message for smash-and-grab thieves

CHICAGO — The iconic Wiener’s Circle was the target of a smash-and-grab early Monday morning.

The incident happened around 3:35 a.m. at the hot dog stand, located at 2622 North Clark Street in Lincoln Park.

According to police, a group of three to four people broke a glass door of the restaurant, made entry and removed a large object — possibly a safe.

The offenders then entered a black SUV and fled the scene southbound.

According to the hot dog stand, this is the second time they’ve been the victim of a smash-and-grab.

The Wiener’s Circle, known in Chicago for their brash — but comical — interaction with customers, has a message for the burglars and shared it on “X.”

“We had our second smash and grab last night. Note to all you hamburglars, we have hired a guy named Hakeem from Zumunda, come back and he will be forced to thrash you with a mop handle if you come back.”

No one is in custody at this time. Area Three detectives are investigating.
