WORCESTER — A teenaged driver cited in a July crash involving a 13-year-old pedestrian was arraigned in Central District Court Monday.
Van A. Nguyen, 18, has been charged with speeding, negligent driving and failure to slow down. She was released on personal recognizance.
Nguyen allegedly hit Ayuen Leet while she was crossing Shrewsbury street. The crash occurred about 3:50 p.m. July 29 in the westbound lanes, across from the Boulevard Diner.
Nguyen, a student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, remained at the scene of the crash.
The victim, Ayuen Leet , was in a coma for 24 days, according to her family.
Monday, Jok Mayak Leet, the victim’s brother, said his sister is doing well. He was in the courtroom with two family members.
‘She started to move’
“She has been in rehabilitation for three weeks now,” Jok Mayak Leet said. “She hasn’t come home yet.”
Ayuen Leet suffered a fractured skull. She also had a brain bleed and a lot of swelling of her brain. Due to her injuries, the right side of her skull had to be removed, Jok Mayak Leet previously said.
