AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced a new round of layoffs, including dozens in Akron.
The Akron-headquartered company confirmed the layoffs with FOX 8 News on Monday afternoon.
U.S. could soon see shortages and price increases
“Last week, as part of our ongoing Goodyear Forward transformation, we announced a reduction of 82 roles across Goodyear’s corporate functions, Global Operations & Technology and Americas business,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
Half of those layoffs are based in Akron, according to Goodyear officials.
“These actions are part of evolving our organizational structure to be more cost-efficient, improve our profitability and position the company for long-term success,” the statement continued.

This comes after the company announced about 500 layoffs in January of 2023 as part of a “cost savings plan”.
