Jefferson Speedway: Blake Nottestad wins International class at 44th annual Wisconsin State Championships

CAMBRIDGE — The 44th annual Wisconsin State Championships presented by Glassworks of Wisconsin kicked off the first of two weekends of racing action with the small car portion of the multi-day event. Some beautiful southern Wisconsin weather helped set the stage for five divisions of racing. When the dust settled, five new state champs were crowned with more yet to come.

The headline division for the weekend was the International class. Cambridge driver, Blake Nottestad, added his name to a long list of Nottestad family members to lay claim to a state title at Wisconsin’s Action Track. Nottestad combined two feature wins on Saturday with his second place finish on Friday to capture the overall title.

Karter Stark of Marshall claimed an exciting 25 lap International feature on Friday evening. A three wide pass on lap one netting Merek Pankow the early lead with Shaun Bowar following into second. After an early caution, Bowar and Pankow led the field back to green. Bowar grabbed the lead with Pankow falling back into a fight for second with Weston Strese. Strese moved past Pankow and up alongside Bowar. Strese moved ahead to take the point on lap ten. Bowar fell off the pace allowing Kyle Stark to charge into second followed by his son, Karter. Another caution on lap 15 pitted Strese and Kyle Stark alongside for the restart.
