Emergency officials are still assessing the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. Catastrophic flooding and widespread power, cell service, and internet outages have cut off much of the region from needed resources. State and local agencies are mobilizing to provide support to the area’s more than 1 million residents.
