‘Will not stop us from doing good in the community’: Huntsville’s Free LGBTQ+ Closet trailer stolen

HUNTSVILLE, Ala ( WHNT ) — Huntsville’s Free LGBTQ+ Closet trailer was stolen from the Shenanigans Comedy Theater back parking lot Saturday night.

Standing at 16 feet long, the trailer was filled with clothes, shoes, accessories and books free to the public and anyone in need.

“It was a shock because it was, kind of our only way to really store clothing, sort clothing and then get it out to the community,” said Jessica Cotton.

Cotton is the co-founder of Shenanigans Comedy Theater. The theater owns and runs the closet.

“The LGBTQ+ closet was created so that people in the community who may be afraid of judgment or of discrimination when asking for resources, know that they have somewhere safe if they can go and get what they need,” Cotton said.

Cotton said the trailer had two different types of locks on it, so she’s assuming the thieves came with a plan. She added that the trailer was full of items when it was stolen.
