Man accused of tossing dog from Central Gardens high-rise

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police have charged a man they say tossed a dog from a Midtown high-rise, killing the animal.

Markavious Poole, 18, was arrested Sunday night following the incident at the Central Gardens Apartments in the 1400 block of Central Avenue.

A resident of the 11-story building told officers he was sitting on his balcony when he saw Poole throw the dog over another balcony, and he called security.

Police have not said who the dog belonged to or the floor Poole was on at the time. Tenants on the first floor were stunned to hear about what happened to the dog.

“I mean, I don’t have an animal, but we need them, and they need us,” said a man who did not want to be identified. “That’s not right. The dog didn’t do anything to him.”

A manager at Central Gardens Apartments said Poole was not a tenant, and their security guard was able to detain Poole before police arrived. Other tenants said they had seen Poole hanging around the building.
