Tallahassee bands together for local relief effort after Hurricane Helene

Days after Hurricane Helene, Tallahassee residents flocked to the local Costco bearing food, water, and other supplies to go to survivors.

A supply drive was put together to help those in need after many families in the Big Bend returned or woke up to devastation. The community partners included the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Costco, United Partners for Human Services, The Greg Tish Show, state Rep. Allison Tant, state Sen. Corey Simon and J.H. Dowling Inc.

Susanne Dudley, a Tallahassee resident who donated, said, “We all feel blessed that we didn’t take the direct hit and we want to do what we can to help all the others in our Big Bend community.”

Many streamed out of Costco with toilet paper, snacks, diapers, Gatorade and more to donate to survivors. Dudley had canned goods, snacks, cereals, diapers, garbage bags and others in her donation.

Supplies are needed as families in the Big Bend begin to put their communities back together. Tant said, “Power’s going to be out very late this week in some areas, especially in Taylor and Madison counties … so we’re just doing everything we can.”
