Law enforcement and school district officials said there would be a “heavy police presence” outside two Sioux Falls schools Monday, after a report of an active shooter that Sioux Falls Police Department authorities said was “not credible.”

The Sioux Falls Police Department sent out a press release Monday afternoon, stating the department had received a call at 10:30 a.m. requesting a well-being check on an unspecified person.

The release states that police later learned the person could be in the area of East 3rd Street and North Bahnson Avenue, and that while searching for the person, they received additional information including that the person may have had a weapon, though the release said there were no threats to harm anyone.

Police were in contact with the Sioux Falls School District, the release states, where officials made the decision to place nearby Washington High School and Anne Sullivan Elementary School into shelter-in-place status.
