Man who stabbed worker during January ice storm sentenced to prison

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A man accused of stabbing another man in Springfield during the January 2024 ice storm has been found guilty by a Lane County jury, court records show. According to court records, in January 2024, in the aftermath of days of freezing rain that caused significant damage to local infrastructure, a man was helping neighbors with storm debris on L Street in Springfield. Court records said Thomas Robert Murphy, 44, attacked him, stabbing him nine times before authorities could intervene. Court records said the victim suffered a collapsed lung, among other injuries.
