NJ’s Elite Task Force 1 Deployed to N.C. for Hurricane Relief

SOUTH ORANGE & MAPLEWOOD, NJ – This past Wednesday evening, September 25th, units of -Task Force One – an elite squad of first responders from New Jersey were deployed to North Carolina to help with recovery efforts after the impact of Hurricane Helene.

Two of the members of the unit are Chief of the South Essex Fire Department, Joseph Alvarez and his son, Firefighter Pat Alvarez. It is our understanding that Chief Alvarez was in touch with the department this past Saturday.

The members of Task Force One have been deployed to Ashville, N.C., where there is unimaginable devastation and loss of life. The members of NJ-TF1, according to a statement from the NJ State Police “are safe and fully prepared to continue their mission.”

The deaths, caused by Hurricane Helene, have been reported by the Washington Post to number 130 people.
