According to a new report by The Charlotte Observer, a factory in Charlotte will be closing its doors for good and moving to Mexico – and 80 workers will be laid off.

According to the report, Columbus McKinnon laid off 73 workers on September 29, and another six workers will lose their jobs on March 31, 2025, due to the closure.

The company will be moving its operations to Monterrey, Mexico “as part of a consolidation process for North American linear motion production”, according to the report. The company said the reasoning behind the closure is “ongoing and continued poor plant performance”. The company produces lifting devices, hoists, and, conveyor belts.
