Ramp at Sedgwick Road will close overnight for last stages of Blackjack Creek project

PORT ORCHARD — The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is making progress on fish barrier removal in South Kitsap, and a new bridge above Blackjack Creek will soon replace the original box culverts on Highway 16.

The final steps in the process will affect traffic, however, causing some detours for overnight drivers.

The eastbound lanes of the highway’s exit at Sedgwick Road, going toward Gig Harbor, will close on two upcoming weekends: from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, and then again the same timeframe from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14, according to a statement from WSDOT. Drivers will need to detour around the closure.

“The closures allow contractor crews to tie in the new bridge and new exit ramp over Blackjack Creek. Once all work is complete, traffic will permanently shift onto the new bridge,” WSDOT said in the statement.

WSDOT will have signed detour routes around Port Orchard for drivers needing to access Sedgwick Road during the closures. The work is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled, WSDOT added.
