Mr. 400: Williston’s Robby Pruitt logs 400 career wins as Red Devils crush Trinity Catholic

WILLISTON – Over his 399 wins, Robby Pruitt dealt with every curveball imaginable.

His 400 th brought a new challenge.

Hurricane Helene pushed Williston’s game vs. Trinity Catholic back three days. Still, the Red Devils managed just two and a half practices.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever played a game with two and a half practices,” Pruitt said.

Like in every stop throughout his 40-year coaching career, the head coach preserved and ultimately thrived.

The Red Devils defeated the Celtics 38-7 Monday night at Booster Stadium for the elusive 400 th win.

The celebration waited a week and a half after the Red Devils fell 21-14 at Eastside last Friday .

Pruitt’s coaching career began 40 years ago at Jacksonville’s University Christian in 1984.

In those four decades, he’s won seven FHSAA state championships – all from 1987-1996. Four came at UC (1987, 1989, 1991 and 1992) and another three at Union County (1994, ’95 and ’96).

Still, Pruitt downplayed the significance of 400.

“It tells you how old I am. I’ve been doing this a long time,” Pruitt said. “It’s still an honor to be doing something that long.”
