HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The first day of the new month will feel a lot more like autumn than anything we have seen recently. After starting with a chill this morning, temperatures will rise up into the upper 60s and lower 70s later this afternoon. Winds will stay mostly around or less than 10 mph over the eastern half of the area or so. Farther west and northwest, winds will pick up some out of the south southwest. This will increase the wildfire threat for locations north of North Platte and west of O’Neill. Skies will remain mainly sunny with perhaps a little smoky haze around. Overnight remains mostly clear as temperatures fall back into the 40s to around 50°. Winds will remain out of the south at 5 to 15 mph. Those winds will pick up some on Wednesday at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. This will bring a big boost in temperatures on Wednesday. Under mostly sunny skies, highs will get up into the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s. The warmest temperatures will be in the southwest part of Nebraska.
